The square aspect ratio is what trips people up. Standard passport-size photos in India are 35×35mm — also square, but smaller. The voter ID spec is 50.8mm on each side, not 35mm.

Both are square. Both require white backgrounds. The size difference is what matters. If you submit a standard Indian passport photo to the NVSP portal, the image may be under-dimensioned or get rejected at the field office.

Using an old photo. There's no official rule against it, but the ERO may flag photos where the person's current appearance differs significantly from the image. Use a recent photo.
Glasses in the photo. The Election Commission follows the same no-glasses rule as the Indian passport. Remove them for the photo.
After You Register: EPIC Card and eEPIC Delivery
New EPIC cards take 15-30 days to arrive by post. If you don't receive it, check voter status on the NVSP portal. The card can also be downloaded as a digital Voter ID (eEPIC) from the same portal — a colour PDF version valid for KYC purposes.
The eEPIC is a PDF that contains your photo, name, serial number, and a QR code. It's accepted at polling booths as valid voter identity. Many people now use the digital version as their day-to-day ID proof since it can be stored on the phone and doesn't wear out like the physical PVC card.

Updating Your Voter ID Photo via NVSP (Form 8)
